IRAN: 4 political prisoners on hunger strike in Gohardasht Prison

NCRI – Several Iranian political prisoners held in Ward 2 of Gohardasht (Rajai-Shahr) Prison in Karaj, north-west of Tehran, have gone on hunger strike since Sunday, December 27, 2015, to protest a miscalculation of their detention period and prison officials’ violation of the principle of separation of crimes.

The political prisoners were arrested on false charges and detained in solitary confinement under horrible conditions to extract confessions from them. They were in detention for an average period of 24 months each, but this was not calculated (in the duration of their sentence).

Disappointed from enjoying their legal rights, as no humanitarian or legal institution supported them, they went on hunger strike as a last resort. In the hope that one day with the support of legal international institutions, no political prisoner is forced to go on hunger strike for gaining their rights.
