Iran: 20 people executed in Mashhad prison in a wave of hangings

NCRI – Twenty individuals have been hanged by the Iranian regime at a prison in Mashhad in November, the student website Daneshjou News reported on Thursday.

In recent months, human rights activists in Iran have uncovered mass executions carried out in secret by the Iranian regime without due process at Mashhad’s Vakil Abad prison.

According to these reports and local sources, the website said, nine prisoners were hanged on November 9 and eleven were hanged on November 30 on what the regime claimed were drug-related charges.

According to the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, the number of executions at Vakil Abad prison during the past two months alone now stands at 30.

23 others were reportedly executed in the prison in September, but the statistics are not divulged by the regime’s judiciary to state-run media.

The reports say that the hangings take place at the so-called Protection Ward of Vakil Abad prison in the northeastern city of Mashhad.
