NCRI – On Tuesday, at least 18 prisoners were hanged in groups in three prisons in Iran as executions continue to soar under Hassan Rouhani.

A group of 11 prisoners including a woman and an Afghan were executed in Gezel Hesar prison in the city of Karaj and four prisoners including a woman were hanged in Orumieh Prison.

Three other prisoners were hanged in the main prison in the southeastern Iranian city of Zahedan.

They had all been held in prison on alleged drug related charges.

In Zahedan prison, the authorities handcuffed and chained the three men and transferred them on Monday evening from their cell to isolation to await their execution.

The victims were identified as Alireza Ghorbani, Hossein Shahoorahi and Aliakbar Nouraldini.

Ghorbani and Shahoorahi – who were both married and had children – have been in prison for five years.

The prisoners hanged in Orumieh included three men – Yadullah Fahimi, Mokhtar Dadkhah and Monochehr Rezaei. A woman named Marzieh Ostovari was hanged with the group.

On Monday, the Iranian Resistance called on human rights organizations to adopt immediate measures to save the lives of prisoners on the verge of execution.

Since Monday morning, all prisoners in Ward 2 of Gezel Hesar Prison went on a hunger strike to protest against group executions and to stop the execution of their fellow inmates.

In Ward 2 of this prison there are over 6,000 prisoners piled up in overbearing conditions. Most of these prisoners are either on the death row or are awaiting death verdicts.
