EP Foreign Affairs Chair: Human rights abuses and executions of opposition members in Iran are still unresolved issues

NCRI – The Chairman of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Gabriel Albertini, has rejected plans for formal ceremonies and receptions during a potential visit by the Iranian regime’s Foreign Minister, saying, “The Iranian regime’s authorities are trying to obtain legal legitimacy by visiting the European Parliament, but the issues of their nuclear program, human rights violations and execution sentences for opposition members have yet to be resolved.”

According to the Italian daily il Giornale, the Iranian regime’s FM, Manouchehr Mottaki, is scheduled to meet with Albertini on Tuesday, June 1. The daily also cited protests by a large number of European Parliament members who denounced the meeting, saying that the regime seeks to use it to score propaganda points.

il Giornale added that the clerical regime’s ambassador in Brussels demanded Mottaki’s speech to be aired live on state-run Iranian TV, as well as a press conference and other formal and official ceremonies.

According to il Giornale, after exposing these demands, Albertini rejected a formal reception and said, “There will be no concessions and no appeasement.”

il Giornale wrote that Mottaki is known to be fond of speaking for long periods of time, but if his speech exceeds the designated time slot on Tuesday, there is a possibility that it would get cut off.
