The Iranian regime’s Justice Minister in Hassan Rouhani’s cabinet insulted the UN designation of Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Iran and described human rights as the main issue of the regime with the West.
Mostafa Pourmohammadi, one of the regime’s most brutal officials, who is responsible for execution of thousands of political prisoners during the 1988 Massacre of Political Prisoners attacked Dr. Ahmed shaheed, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Iran accusing him of being “corrupt” and “being a political tool.”
Mostafa Pourmohammadi nomination as justice minister in August 2013 was criticized by international organizations that requested the withdrawal of his nomination for the post of justice minister due to his past crimes.
Since the designation of the Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Iran, the Iranian regime that considers the designation an ‘insult’ to itself has expressed anger by not recognizing the designation and making personal attacks against the Rapporteur.
In March 2013, United Nations when the UN Rapporteur presented the findings of his report on the situation of human rights in Iran to the Human Rights Council the president of the session reminded the Iranian regime’s representative not to personally attack the Rapporteur in his remarks in the session.
In October, reacting to a report published by the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, the government of Hassan Rohani said that the regime ” does not recognize the UN Rapporteur.”
In a report presented to the United Nations’ General Assembly on Wednesday, October 23, Ahmed Shaheed stressed that “the human rights situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran continues to warrant serious concern, with no sign of improvement”.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Marzieh Afkham , said: ” Appointment of a Special Rapporteur on Human Rights for Iran is an insult” to the regime.
Since Hassan Rouhani has taken office, Dr. Ahmad Shaheed , the Special Rapporteur of the UN twice has asked to visit Iran but Rouhani has opposed it.
Meanwhile, Mohammad-Javad Larijani, Secretary of the Iranian regime’s so-called Human Rights Council, said on January 13 that the his regime rejects the human rights norms and standards accepted by western states, according to state-run FARS news agency.
He said his regime’s “affinity for human rights is rooted in its… cultural principles and we don’t accept the West-imposed human rights (principles) which want to change our way of life (lifestyle),” Larijani told a delegation from Ireland visiting Tehran.
