EU vows to slap sanctions on Iranian regime rights violators

NCRI – The European Union on Monday agreed to rapidly slap sanctions on those responsible for committing human rights violations in Iran, according to AFP.

Expressing concerns over “deteriorating” human rights in Iran, the 27-nation bloc said it was “alarmed by the dramatic increase in executions in recent months and the systematic repression of Iranian citizens.”

A declaration by the EU’s foreign ministers said the bloc “will continue to address human rights abuses in Iran, including by swiftly introducing restrictive measures targeted against those responsible for grave human rights violations.”

The ministers called on the Iranian regime “to live up to the international human rights obligations that Iran has entered into,” calling in particular on Tehran “to release immediately all political prisoners and to halt executions.”

Previous reports indicated that the EU intends to slap sanctions on 80 of the regime’s human rights violators, including high-level officials.
