EU Urged Iran regime to halt execution of juvenile offenders

NCRI – The European Union urged Iranian regime on Sunday not to execute a young man sentenced to death for crime committed when he was a minor.

"The Presidency of the EU is deeply concerned by the news of the imminent execution of Behnoud Shojaee," the current EU president, Slovenia, said in a statement.

The EU presidency urged the Iranian regime “to comply with international law and to immediately halt the execution of Mr Shojaee and of all other juvenile offenders on death row."

Shojaee's execution is planned for May 7. He is aged 20 and was 17 at the time of his crime.

The EU Presidency again urged the Iranian regime “to immediately cease all executions and apply a moratorium on executions, with a view to abolishing the death penalty, as called for in the United Nations General Assembly resolution on a Moratorium on the use of the death penalty, as adopted in December 2007.”
