Clashes reported in Haft-e Tir Square gathering

NCRI – At about 17:00 local time Tehran on Monday, when the size of gathering grew, people started to chant slogans of “God is Great.” Suddenly, protestors, especially young and old women, were attacked by the Iranian regime’s agents. Several people who were filming this vicious attack have been arrested. Agents rushed against the people who were trying to seek refuge in a mosque. The regime’s forces were beating them with batons.

A number of people forming a human chain chanted “Death to dictator.” A large crowd ran towards Somayeh Street and Vali-e Asr Street, with others following their lead. As clashes started between people and the State Security Forces (SSF), many more agents on bikes entered the scene and attacked people with batons and pepper sprays.

At least three people were on a Mellat Bank roof top monitoring the square with their cameras. Six people have been reported killed at the Haft-e Tir Square gathering.

Several low flying and noisy helicopters were hovering over the area terrorizing the crowd. It has been reported that clashes in Mofatteh were more severe. In Vali-e Asr Square and Palestine, a large number of paramilitary Bassij forces have been stationed equipped with batons and shields.

Several people have lit flames and have sat quietly together in Haft-e Tir Square. But, the special anti-riot unit waged an attack in order to disperse them. People have clashed with plain-clothes forces and special anti-riot forces, which are still continuing.
