Amnesty issues urgent call for missing Iranian student

NCRI – The whereabouts of a student activist arrested in Babol, Iran, on February 20 remains unknown, the rights group Amnesty International said in an urgent statement on Tuesday.

Iman Sedighi’s whereabouts are not known following his arrest after a day of nationwide protests and strikes against the regime, Amnesty said.

Referring to the regime’s killing of protestors its propaganda against the main Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), the statement said, “The authorities blamed the deaths on the PMOI, [but] eyewitnesses told Amnesty International that gunfire in the vicinity of the area where the two individuals killed were demonstrating came from areas where security forces were posted.”

Amnesty added, “In January 2011, two people were executed for alleged links to the PMOI after participating in demonstrations against the authorities which took place in Iran in late December 2009 during the Ashoura religious commemorations.”
