Amnesty International calls for investigation into Iran prison murders

NCRI – The prominent human rights group Amnesty International released a statement this week condemning the Iranian regime’s murder of inmates at a prison in Karaj, and called for investigations by competent international authorities.

Many prisoners at Qezelhesar prison are reported to have died after the regime’s agents opened fire on them in a barbaric act to quell a disturbance on Tuesday.

An Amnesty official said “such a high death toll is extremely worrying,” according to the statement.

Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, Deputy Director of Amnesty International’s Middle East and North Africa Programme, added, “A prompt inquiry into these deaths is essential … we are once again calling on the international community to use the current session of the UN Human Rights Council to create a Special Rapporteur to monitor and report on human rights in the Iran.”
