Admitting torture, SSF chief says agents are told to ease “physical confrontation”

NCRI – The commander of the Iranian regime’s State Security Forces (SSF) admitted that his forces use torture in detention centers to obtain so-called confessions, adding that torturers have been told to avoid using “physical confrontation” in the future.

According to the state-run Fars news agency on Wednesday, SSF commander Esmail Ahmadi Moqaddam said, “We have taken a tough line at SSF so that technical means can be used to obtain confessions rather than physical methods. These tough measures have exerted pressure on agents.”

The regime’s SSF chief added, “Of course, there are some exceptions in the behavior of some agents and SSF organs, and we are trying to take care of those.”

Ahmadi Moqaddam, who made the comments to a group of journalists, also referred to the now infamous Kahrizak detention center, where a number of anti-regime protestors died under torture, and said, “Those bitter incidents prompted us to seriously think about standardizing detention centers and to control the behavior of police agents.”
