NCRI - Up to 70 men and women have been arrested at two private parties held in Iran, state-run media have reported.

A group of 45 were arrested during a raid on a private party held in a workshop on the outskirts of city of Qom on Monday, 1 May 2017, reported Mizan News Agency affiliated with the Iranian regime’s judiciary, quoting Mehdi Kahe, attorney general of Revolutionary Court in Qom province.

Kahe said: ”Upon receiving reports to Qom province's security and information police on the presence of number of men and women in an upholstery workshop on the outskirts of the city and after obtaining judiciary order, group of police force were immediately dispatched to the location.”

According to this official, 14 of those arrested were sent to prison.

The same news agency reported that on the eve of Sunday, 30 April 2017, police arrested 25 boys and girls in a birthday party in a Pizza shop in metropolis Ahvaz (Khuzestan province in southwestern Iran).

According to the report, police has arrested all those present at the party and they have been introduced to the justice authorities. The store unit that party was taken place in was sealed.

An earlier report by state-run Rokna, police officers and public safety officials had arrested 36 girls and boys as well partying in a private home in the city of Abadan on the evening of 29 April 2017.

According to same news agency all those arrested have been turned to judicial authorities for further investigation.

Police raids on private and overnight parties have significantly been increased in recent months.

“The Iranian regime is stepping up censorship of, and restrictions on,social media sites and applications in a desperate attempt to confront growing dissatisfaction and rage among the younger generation,” said Shahin Gobadi, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran.

“As we are getting closer to the sham elections on May 19, it hasbecome abundantly clear that the expection of moderation or reform during Hassan Rouhani’s tenure has been nothing but a mirage. The regime’s factions are in total unanimity as it pertains to suppression at home, export of terrorism, Islamic extremism, and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction,” Gobadi added.
