At the Free Iran rally in Paris on June 30, former Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi gave an impassioned speech in support of the Iranian Resistance and its leader Maryam Rajavi, advocating that the world was only getting closer to a free and democratic Iran.

Terzi, a long-time supporter of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) who organised the gathering, began by expressing his support for Maryam Rajavi and all of those fighting for freedom and regime change in Iran, which he said was “in the interest of all humanity”.

He then criticised the Iranian Regime for their increasingly desperate attempts to smear the Iranian Resistance, even pulling in Reza Pahlavi Jr., the son of the Shah who was run out of Iran in 1979, to act as the Regime’s PR guy in a recent newspaper interview.

Terzi said: “We refuse to fall in this new trap of the regime.”

He then explained that the majority of Italian society supports the NCRI in its desire for regime change, which is “on the right side of history”.
He highlighted that 38 Italian senators had signed a declaration of support of the Iranian people in their anti-regime uprising to bring freedom and democracy to Iran. This declaration made explicit reference to the fact that the Iranian Regime has spent 40 years oppressing the Iranian people, including the executions of over 120,000 Iranian defenders of democracy, mainly those affiliated with the NCRI; more than 30,000 of them in just a few months in 1988.

Terzi said: “Madame Rajavi has recently said from the outset the regime was at war with the people of Iran. All the other wars have been designed to cover up this main conflict. But these wars are not an indication of the regime’s strength, they are an indication that no government has ever attempted to prevent the regime’s belligerence. Time for ration has come, a new (year for) regional and global security arises from the shores of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. Americans and Europeans need to test their common will and fundamental values together to prove their commitment, no better opportunity exists than an active, strong support to the Iranian resistance for a regime change in Iran.”

The Free Iran rally was attended by around 100, 000 diplomats, politicians, human rights activists, dignitaries, and members of the Iranian Resistance. The Iranian Regime attempted to bomb the event, but was stopped by European authorities.
