NCRI – The price of tomatoes in Iran has sharply risen by 50 percent in the past week alone, according to an official of the Iranian regime.

Seyed Hossein Mohajeran, head of the Fruit and Vegetable Sellers Union, told the state-run Mehr news agency on Sunday, April 17 that the price rises are reflecting even in the wholesale section of the Iranian bazaar.

“It has been a week since the price of this produce has increased, and in the [bazaar’s] central square it has reached 2500 to 3500 tomans,” or the equivalent of U.S. $0.83 to $1.16, he said.

He said there has also been a hike of 20 percent in the price of oranges.

The price of bananas has increased by 30 percent, he added.
