Rafsanjani’s son warns about impact of removal of subsidies on transit riders

Mohsen HashamiNCRI – A son of the Iranian regime’s former president, who runs Tehran’s Metro, has warned ‎about the impact of removing government subsidies, saying that there will be an uprising ‎if there are no plans about the price of metro tickets.‎

According to the state-run Fars news agency, the son of Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, ‎Mohsen, has said, “Since we are on the brink of the implementation of targeted subsidies, ‎certainly with an increase in energy prices, a large amount of pressure will be placed on ‎the metro.”‎

He warned, “The main source of pressure will be increasing fuel prices for public ‎transportation and especially the metro, because the bus fleet in the country does not have ‎the capability to meet the demands of clients in the new circumstances.”‎

‎“If in such circumstances, the metro does not have the ability to meet the people’s ‎demands, there will be social unrest and riots.”‎
