Mine worker protests continue in Iran

NCRI – Thousands of Iranian mine workers are continuing their protests in anger at non-payment of wages.

In north-eastern province of Semnan, around 1400 workers have gone on strike at a coal mine where managers told the state-run ILNA news agency they have not had enough money to pay salaries for the past two months.

Another 2,000 workers at a iron ore mine in Ardekan, in central province of Yazd, are staging their third protest since November last year over unpaid wages and the sacking of a colleague.

Security forces arrested 28 of them last week, but later freed all but one over fears the protests could spread.
