Iranian regime side-steps sanctions with higher electricity exports

NCRI – The Iranian regime is increasing exports of electricity to Turkey and Pakistan in return for goods in a bid to side-step international sanctions on the theocratic regime.

Deputy energy and electricity minister Mohammad Behzad said exports to Turkey had already gone up, adding: “We are looking forward to increasing the export of electricity to Pakistan as well. If they do not pay the export with currency, we will import the necessary goods to our country.”

Behzad told the state-run Fars news agency: “Currently, the export of electricity usage is 42,258 megawatts, which is about 1,100 megawatts lower than the previous year.

“Our prediction is that the export usage for this year will reach 46,200 megawatts, which is 4,000 megawatts more. Therefore the whole powerhouse is ready for service.”

Asked about electricity exports to Turkey and Pakistan, he replied: “The export of electricity to Turkey has increased. It has risen from 230 to 400 kilowatts, meaning the total amount of electricity exports has reached 400 megawatts.”

And asked how Pakistan would pay for its Iranian electricity, Behzad said: “We are in a state of sanction and if we can’t receive money in return for the electricity, there are goods that are needed for this country which we will gain through commercial agreements.”
