Iran: Price of basic foods soars under Hassan Rouhani

NCRI – The cost of essential foodstuffs have soared in Iran during the first 100 days of new mu Hassan Rouhani’s government.

The price of 16 essential items has rocketed by up to 300 per cent as the regime’s economy spirals into chaos.

Pasteurized yoghurt has gone up in price from 2,500 Tomans to 3,100 Tomans, the price of pasteurized butter has increased from 1,200 to 2,400 Tomans, and the cost of one egg shoulder has gone up from 2,400 to 8,500 Tomans.

The price of a kilo of rice has increased from 6,400 to 8,500 Tomans, and a kilo of lamb has gone up from 24,000 to 31,000 Tomans.

Other products that have seen steep price increases include sugar, sugar cubes, animal oil, red beans, cucumber, tomato, potato and chickpeas.

Only the prices of cheese, milk, lentils, beef, chicken, foreign tea, and solid oil have remained stable.
