Iran: Import of frozen meat has grown 20 fold

NCRI – Currently, Iran is importing over $7,000,000 worth of frozen meat a month. This number has grown 20 fold in the past eight years.

According to Sharq state-run daily “Import of red meat has now reached a record high of $300,000.” According to this report, in 2005, only $4,000,000 meat was imported while in 2013 this number has grown to $85,000,000. This figure is just for frozen meat and live livestock should be added to this figure.”

According to this report, “Old and sick cows of India and Pakistan not only directly devoured country’s currency, but brought with them deadly souvenirs such as flaky flu”, Sharq wrote on August 14.

The report added: “Import of cheap frozen meat from India has broken the back of Iranians working in livestock industry.”

Unofficial reports speak of closure of almost half of nation’s livestock industry. This is while during the past year regime’s officials were announcing astonishing news about Iran’s self-sufficiency in meat. Despite all these claims, assessment of country’s livestock section reveals realities to the contrary.
