Inflation in Iranian villages are higher than cities

NCRI – Inflation is soaring in villages in Iran at a higher rate than anywhere else within the regime, the latest official statistics have revealed.

Prices have gone up 42.6 per cent in rural communities in the past two months, compared to 36.2 per cent in cities, Iran’s Statistics Center said.

Experts have blamed the steep increase in prices the flood of imports in recent years that have damages independent production in villages.

The dollar exchange rate for imported of goods in return of oil has also turned into villages into net consumers rather than producers, and the cost of energy and gas and transporting imported goods to villages has also contributed to the inflation.

Research by the World Bank on the fallout of fuel price rises in Iran has also hit villages. Despite lower rents than in urban areas, the inflation is then causing an increase in the migration of villagers to cities and further harmed agricultural production, economic stability and development, the report said.
Statistics center chief Adel Azar said: “The increase in price is more apparent in the villages than cities.”

The true figures of inflation rate in Iran are much higher than official figures.
