Members of US Congress condemn attack on Camp Liberty

NCRI – In separate statements and letters, members of US Congress have condemned the February 9 rocket attack n Camp Liberty that killed seven residents and injured 100.

Congressman Ted Poe, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Non-proliferation and Trade said: ” Those who attacked Camp Liberty are threatened by what the dissidents stand for–an Iran free from the extreme mullahs and tyrant Ahmadinejad.”

“The Iraqi government has proven on more than one occasion that it is either unwilling or unable to protect the Iranian dissidents,” he added.

Congressman Brad Sherman said: “I urge the State Department to do whatever it can to press Baghdad to provide immediate medical care and security for these residents. The attack demonstrates these residents’ vulnerability and the need to ensure their protection.”

Congressman Trent Franks, Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, said in a statement: “I condemn, in the strongest of terms, the recent, vicious terrorist attacks on Camp Liberty currently sheltering Iranian dissident group, the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq (MEK).”

“I call on the United Nations and the United States Department of State to closely follow the investigation of this attack underway by Iraqi authorities.  Further, the MEK deserves better security protections and housing to shelter them from the world’s foremost sponsor of terrorism, Iran.”
