Vicious attack against Ashraf hands Iraqi land to Iranian regime

NCRI – After a vicious attack on April 8 against Camp Ashraf, which took place under the pretext of taking over agricultural land, the land has been handed over to the Iranian regime’s intelligence service, the committee of lawyers in defense of Ashraf said.

In a may 6 statement, the committee said, “It is now clear that the land, for which the Iraqi army conducted a heavy-handed operation using armored and engineer battalions, killing 35 residents and seriously wounding 350, has been handed over to the Iranian regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).”

“Presently, the regime’s intelligence agents have installed an 8-meter watchtower in the middle of Ashraf and mounted loudspeakers on it. They shout out insults and obscenities against the residents, especially women, and are continuing their psychological torture.”

The statement added, “So, what are we to believe? The claim of imposing Iraq’s sovereignty over Ashraf which is used as an excuse to kill the residents, or the selling of iraq’s sovereignty to the Iranian regime?”
“It is now clear who the claimed ‘owners’ of Ashraf’s land are. And this is a disgrace that they are selling our national sovereignty to the Iranian regime.”

The committee of the Iraqi lawyers added, “The Iraqi army must be guarding our country’s borders. But instead it is used to kill our guests. What is even worse is that for the past 28 days, in violation of all Islamic laws, the residents of Ashraf have been prevented from burying their dead at the cemetery and moreover the injured have been denied medical care.”
