US and UN have abandoned Liberty residents to an ‘extermination camp’, Giuliani tells conference

The United States and United Nations have broken their promises to Iranian dissidents in Iraq, who are now living in an ‘extermination camp’ under constant threat of attack, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani has told an international conference in Paris.

He described the abandonment of pledges by the West to the residents of Camp Liberty as a ‘breach of faith’, and said they should not be left to be slaughtered for the sake of a ‘useless’ nuclear agreement with Iran.

Speaking at a conference on the eve of International Human Rights Day on December 7, Mr Giuliani also praised the Iranian opposition movement, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as the only true alternative to the theocratic mullahs ruling in Tehran.

He said of Camp Liberty: “It has become an extermination camp under the auspices of the United Nations and the United States.

“It is very hard to speak today without great anger at Nouri Maliki, anger at Iran, anger at Martin Kobler, anger at the United Nations and yes, anger at my own government, my own state Department that numerous times have promised these people protection.”

And he warned that new Iranian president Hassan Rouhani was notorious for his false promises during nuclear negotiations just to ensure an easing of sanctions for his economically crippled regime.

Mr Giuliani said: “Rouhani fooled us once before, they pretended they were going to cease nuclear enrichment, they pretended they were going to stop many more centrifuges, they pretended they were going to comply with the inspections, and they got caught cheating.

“Did the UN catch them, did the US catch them, and did the UK or France catch them? MEK caught them, as the world was buying this romantic notion that we can negotiate with Iran, it was your work that in August of 2002 revealed nuclear sites at Natanz and Arak.”

The US wrongly believed the nuclear negotiations and the plight of the residents of Ashraf and Liberty were connected, Mr Giuliani said, adding: “They believe if they fight too hard to help the people of Liberty and Ashraf, it will undermine these negotiations.

“Yes, we are going to make concessions, realistic ones, for nuclear freedom, no nuclear weapons for Iran. But I tell you what we are not going to do, we are not going to allow you slaughter people we promised to protect just to get possibly some useless agreement.”

Mr Giuliani said the US and UN must now uphold promises to protect Liberty residents, and insisted that despite a nuclear deal, the legitimacy of the Iranian regime should never be accepted.

He told delegates: “We cannot accept the legitimacy of a regime who in the last hundred days of the reformer’s regime has killed over four hundred people.

“America should recognize that there is a democratic alternative to the regime in Iran. It has gained credibility by the blood of its martyrs and that alternative is the MeK. Recognizing that will put tremendous pressure on the Iranian regime and more important than the Iranian regime it will give hope to the people of Iran who desperately need hope.

“Under Madam Rajavi’s leadership I know everything will be done to deliver you freedom. It is a long road it is a dangerous road, it is a road that others have traveled but when the idea of freedom is alive and when it has people who are willing to die for it, freedom prevails and it will for Iran.”
