Thousands of Arab lawyers demand UN sack Martin Kobler

NCRI – Thousands of Arabic lawyers and jurists have demanded that the US and UN return Camp Liberty residents to Ashraf, and that the UN’s Iraqi representative be sacked for exposing the highly vulnerable Iranian dissidents to ‘a crime against humanity’.

A statement signed by 8160 lawyers from across the Arab world said: “Arab jurists and lawyers demand UN and US urgently return all residents of Liberty to Camp Ashraf; otherwise the US is obligated to take all the residents to the United States and relocate them from there.

“They also demanded the replacement of Martin Kobler with a neutral representative. This is because Kobler acted as a facilitator in the forcible replacement of Ashraf residents to Liberty.

“The UN, UNHCR and US Government must also impose pressures on the Iraqi Government to open Liberty doors to jurists, lawyers and defenders of human rights. The UNHCR must also recognize residents of Liberty and Ashraf as group refugee status.”

The relocation of the residents was now ‘urgent in the wake of the February 9 missile attack on the camp that had left seven dead and more than 100 injured, the statement said.

“8160 jurists, judges, lawyers and law professors from different Arabic countries signed a joint statement that assessed the massacre against protected individuals under international conventions as a crime against humanity and called on UN to circulate all its services to guarantee the full safety and security of all residents of Liberty and Ashraf.”
