Tariq Al-Hashemi: Iraqi government violates rights of Iranian refugees in Camp Ashraf and Camp Liberty

Iraqi Vice President, Taqriq al-HashemiNCRI – Iraqi Deputy PresidentTariq al-Hashemi said on Monday that the Iraqi government is mistreating the Iranian dissidents in Camp Ashraf and Camp Liberty.  According to the report by Iraqi website Voice of Iraq, al-Hashemi stated that the perpetrators of crimes against these Iranian refugees in Iraq will soon or later be brought to justice.

“The Iranian refugees have the right to be worried about their future since they have been mistreated and their rights violated. The residents of Camp Ashraf and Camp Liberty are the guests of the Iraqi people and government and must be treated according to the Geneva conventions,” he added.

“To protect its international creditability, the Iraqi government must have followed the international law in dealing with these refugees but the Iraqi government is only interested in serving the interests of a neighboring country, whatever the costs.”

Al-Hashemi said: “the crimes committed against the camp residents will not be subject to time and the perpetuators of the crimes, regardless of their governmental position, will be brought to justice.”

“I am sure that they will spend the remainder of their lives behind prison walls and will not be able to run away from justice. The criminal investigation has been delayed for a while due to political considerations. When political directions are corrected, these considerations will no longer matter,” he said.
