Silence on Camp Ashraf massacre paves the way for further tragedies

Report by Kuwaiti daily al-Watan*, 20 October 2013 – The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) has called on UN and U.S. to assume their responsibility concerning protection of Iranian dissidents in Camp Liberty and to release the seven hostages – which PMOI alleges Iraqi government has abducted.

In a press statement a copy of which reached al-Watan, PMOI spokesman Shahriar Kia said that the attack on Camp Ashraf which led to the death of 52 members of PMOI and abduction of seven more, including six women, was carried out at the behest of the Iranian regime.

He noted that silence in face of this massacre against Iranian dissidents translates into a green light for further massacres and violations against those who are in camps Liberty and Ashraf.

Speaking on this matter a Camp Liberty resident whose brother was among those killed in recent attack on Camp Ashraf, reminded that U.S. and UN could have prevented this attack – which she said was perpetrated by Maliki’s government upon orders from Iran.
