Senior Iraqiya official says Camp Ashraf residents are “protected persons”

Zafar AalanyNCRI – A senior official of the al-Iraqiya list, the bloc that won March’s parliamentary ‎elections in Iraq, has said that the residents of Camp Ashraf are protected under ‎international law and pressures against them are only indicative of the Iranian regime’s ‎meddling in Baghdad.‎

Mr. Zafer al-Ani said that the mullahs are terrified of the people in Camp Ashraf, who are ‎members of the main opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), ‎because their regime is weak and unstable.‎

According to the daily “Baghdad” on Sunday, Mr. al-Ani added, “We have not heard of ‎any other group that has deeper roots in Iranian society than the PMOI does, which ‎explains the pressures on Camp Ashraf.”‎
