Senior Iraqi politician condemns Iranian regime’s hostile remarks about Ashraf

AloociNCRI – The leader of an Iraqi political party has condemned comments made by the Iranian regime’s envoy against dissident Iranians in Camp Ashraf, Iraq, saying that such statements constitute interference in Iraq’s internal affairs.

According to the daily al-Nour on Wednesday, Mesal Alousi, the leader of Iraq’s Ummah Party, said his party rejects hostile comments made by Tehran’s ambassador towards the residents of Camp Ashraf, members of the main Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

Mr. Alousi was quoted as saying, “We condemn such remarks and emphasize that the Iranian regime’s meddling in Iraq also includes obstructing the creation of a new government and inciting chaos and murders across our land.”

“The world is aware of the Iranian regime’s meddling in Iraq and the onus is on the Iraqi government to avoid acting outside the context of international law,” he added.

Mr. Alousi said, “I call on the Iraqi government to truly act on its responsibilities and be part of the international community. Otherwise, Iraq will lose the world’s trust and this would be dangerous.”

According to al-Nour, the Iraqi political leader also said, “I think the government of Iraq must declare that it stands on the side of international institutions and not the Iranian regime and its intelligence agencies.”
