News agencies, the press and TV stations all over the world, including throughout the Arab world, have broadcasted atrocious scenes of the massacre of members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) who are residing at Ashraf in Iraq. Based on recognized international law, these residents are “protected persons” and the Iraqi government has given written guarantees to the U.S. regarding humane treatment of Ashraf residents who are unarmed and defenseless persons and the Iraqi forces committed an obvious war crime by firing on these people, running them over by their vehicles, and kidnapping and killing them right in front of the eyes of the American forces.

These scenes draw the ire of any free-thinking human and bring pain to any conscientious heart.

According to the news agencies, these brutal attacks have so far left 11 defenseless and unarmed people dead and more than 500 people injured, some of them critically wounded.

These attacks were carried out in fulfillment of the bilateral agreement between the governments of Iran and Iraq which was ordered to the Iraqi officials by Khamenei on February 28, 2009.

According to the reports, Ashraf residents have started an unlimited hunger strike.

We, the signatories of this statement, based on our unwavering belief in human dignity, announce our support of Ashraf residents, reaffirm their just demands and, at the same time, condemn the criminal and atrocious acts of the Iraqi government and call for the following actions:
