Documents exposed by the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) show that Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki directly organized a plot against the residents of Camp Ashraf. The movement said that Maliki is trying to obtain the Iranian regime’s support for the elections. The organization ads that the evidence will be handed over to Spain’s national court which is reviewing a complaint made by Ashraf residents regarding the abuses and inhumane violations committed by the current government through preventing entry of basic requirements to Camp Ashraf.

Host: As a lawyer for Camp Ashraf residents, what would you say are the latest abuses against Ashraf residents?

Dr. Walid Farhat, Chair of the Society of Egyptian Lawyers in Defense of Ashraf Residents in Cairo: First of all, I have to stress that the currently there are some people falsely claiming to be families of Ashraf residents gathering outside they camp. They use loudspeakers and speak ill of the PMOI and residents of the camp, words and phrases that are offensive. They condemn the PMOI and try to add to the psychological and propaganda pressure against them.

Host: In your view, are these abuses related to the al-Maliki government and will the situation change after the elections with a change in government?

Farhat: Clearly, yes. These individuals that claim to be families of Camp Ashraf residents have come with Iraqi armed forces protection and are backed by them. This clearly shows that they are implementing orders from al-Maliki in order to curry favor from the government and regime in Iran, hoping the regime will support him during the elections.

Host: What legal measures are you pursing?

Farhat: Currently were are preparing the case for the court in Spain, handing over evidence of abuses against the camp residents, because they are unarmed civilians and are protected by the Geneva Conventions, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention. We will bring the trial of criminals at an international court.
