More than 15,000 Iraqis call on UN and US to protect Liberty residents

NCRI – The Council of Tribal Leaders in Iraq’s Diyala province has said 15,000 Iraqi citizens have called on the United Nations and the US to protect Camp Liberty residents from further attacks by returning them to the safety of Camp Ashraf.

The council said in a statement: “More than 15,000 citizens of Iraq have sent letters to international organizations condemning the forced transfer of the members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) to Camp Liberty from Ashraf.

They described their forced eviction as a plot by the Iranian regime and Iraqi government with the assistance of Martin Kobler. A plot that resulted in the recent terrorist missile attack on Camp Liberty that cost the lives of seven residents and wounded 100 more.

The statement added: “Ashraf residents were transferred from Ashraf to Camp Liberty based on a memorandum of understanding signed between Martin Kobler and GoI for respecting their rights and their transfer to third countries.

“However after one year, there is still no prospect of their transfer and it has become clear that it was a plan to make the residents homeless, and which led to their massacre.  All of Martin Kobler’s conduct with regard to the residents has been a deception in favour of mullahs in Iran.

“The February 9 attack has shown that Camp Liberty is a killing field.  Therefore we call on US and UN who are responsibile for the resident’s security under the Fourth Geneva Convention, to return the residents to Ashraf so that the UNHCR can interview them.”
