Majority of parliamentarians in Iceland call for supporting the Iranian resistance and protection of Ashraf

NCRI – A majority of the members of Parliament in Iceland have called for the protection of Camp Ashraf and support for the Iranian Resistance. Below is the translated text of the declaration:

• The waves of change have overtaken the Middle East and North Africa, including Iran, and popular uprisings against the religious dictatorship, which is the main obstacle to peace, stability and democratic progress, are still continuing;

• The Iranian regime has resorted to extensive widespread arrests, rising political executions, including the execution of family members of the residents of Camp Ashraf;

 • The siege on Ashraf residents,  protected persons under the Fourth Geneva Convention, and the night and day psychological torture against them using loudspeakers are continuing. During an April 8 attack by Iraqi forces and the Iranian regime’s agents, 35 were killed and 350 were injured among the residents, and the attack is an example of a war crime;

• The third option as proposed by Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, for democratic change in Iran by the Iranian people and Resistance, is within reach.

We call on the Iceland government to carry out the following:

• Referring the dossier of suppression and human rights abuses in Iran to the United Nations Security Council for enacting binding resolutions;

• Convincing the US and the UN to ensure the withdrawal of Iraqi military forces from Ashraf, providing medical help to those wounded, carrying out independent investigations into the crimes of April 8 attack against Ashraf to identify those responsible for the massacre, providing protection of Ashraf residents, and recognizing the Iranian Resistance for democracy, freedom, human rights and rule of law, and carrying out a dialogue with the democratic opposition NCRI.
