NCRI – The Kuwaiti daily al-Seyassah reported on Tuesday that the largest opposition movement against the Iranian regime, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), has announced, “Despite extensive international protests and statements released by Iraqi and international political figures and parliamentarians, and in line with implementing the Iranian regime’s diktats, the Iraqi police has continued its attempts for the fifth straight day to enter and attack Camp Ashraf.”
Camp Ashraf, northeast of Baghdad, is home to some 3,500 PMOI members.
The daily quoted the PMOI as saying, “Camp Ashraf residents have formed a human wall at the camp’s gate to prevent the entry of police, which would be a clear violation of the Iraqi government’s international obligations and the commitments it conveyed to the American government regarding respect for the rights of Ashraf residents.”
According to the report, the PMOI added that in the event of the occurrence of an incident, the governments of Iraq and the US would be held accountable. It stressed that following the Iraqi government’s decision to comply with the Iranian regime’s pressures, the only option left under the circumstances is to obtain international guarantees for the protection of Ashraf.
