Kurdish Iraqi lawmaker urges protecting rights of Iranian dissidents in Iraq

NCRI – A Member of Iraqi Parliament demanded the parliament’s Commission on Human Rights “to ensure the safety and rights of Iranian dissidents in Iraq.”

Ala Talebani said in an interview: “The issues of the massacre at Camp Ashraf on September 1, is among the duties of the Human Rights Commission in the Iraqi Parliament, particularly since it is a humanitarian issue more than a political one.”

The member of the Kurdish coalition in the Iraqi Parliament deplored “the September 1killings in Camp Ashraf where dozens of people were killed and seven people taken hostage.

She also warned against the sending the hostages to Iran. “Sending them to Iran will seriously put their lives in danger,” she said.

On September 1, the Iraqi forces under command of Nouri al-Maliki attacked Camp Ashraf and killed 52 members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

Since that day, a worldwide hunger strike is being held by Iranian dissidents including hundreds of residents of Camp Liberty as a part of an international campaign urging the U.S. Government and the United Nations to act to free seven Camp Ashraf residents taken hostage by Iraqi forces under the command of Nouri Al-Maliki.
