Iraqis unite to demand protection for Liberty residents

NCRI – Iraqi Kurds and tribal leaders have demanded the immediate return of the endangered residents of Camp Liberty to the safety of their former home at Camp Ashraf.

Groups across Iraq warned that the lives of Iranian dissidents were still at risk after a series of terrorist rocket attacks on the camp.

Sheikh Mazhar Ziab al-Kharbait of Iraq’a Albokhalifah Tribe said in a statement: “Camp Liberty was once again target of a rocket attack in daylight. We the al-Dolaim and Albokhlifah tribes call on the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to find an urgent solution for the safety of Liberty residents.”

The Saedi Tribe in Iraq said: “We condemn the violent measure that targeted Camp Liberty leaving two dead and more than dozens injured. We demand the UN and National Security Council to protect these political refugees by urgently returning them to Ashraf.”

The Kurdish Committee in defense of Camp Ashraf added: “Camp Liberty was once again target of a terrorist attack.

“There is no doubt that the transfer of these refugees from Ashraf to Liberty was a crime against humanity carried out by the Iranian regime, Government of Iraq and the UN special representative.”

Supreme Association of the Civil Society organizations in Kurdistan said: “We greatly condemn the rocket attack to Camp Liberty and demand appropriate sides to urgently return these refugees to Camp Ashraf.

“Not only has the relocation process of the residents from Liberty been defeated but during this time the Iranian refugees have continuously been abused and threatened.”

The Kurdish Free Women Association said in their statement: “The Kurdish Free Women Association strongly condemns the attack to the refugees residing in Liberty and calls on the UN and US to urgently return residents of Liberty to Camp Ashraf.”

And the Kurdish Writers Association blamed Iran for the attacks and added: “The Kurdish Writers Association recognizes the attack to Camp Liberty a revenge taken by the Iranian regime from its true opposition and we strongly condemn it.”
