Mehdi Oqbai [spokesperson for of the Iranian opposition group, the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK)] has told the media: The siege on Camp Ashraf by the government has now entered its fifth month at a time when constant sand storms have inflicted serious damage to the camp. In addition, the flow of workers, food supplies, and necessary equipment to repair water and electricity facilities into the city has been halted.
Oqbai added that earlier this month, government forces prevented the entry of ten trucks containing food, fuel and basic necessities for water and electricity facilities to Camp Ashraf. He expressed worry about the camp’s situation especially because its residents are living under increasing strain, now having to ration water in view of the threat of a complete disruption of water flow to the city.
He called on the UN Security Council, Secretary General and the High Commissioner for Human Rights to intervene immediately to lift the siege on Camp Ashraf and obligate the current government to implement international law and comply with a European Parliament resolution on the humanitarian situation of Ashraf residents passed on April 24, 2009.
