”I write to express my grave concern that two members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), Messrs. Hossein Pouyan and Mohammad-Ali Zahedi, were abducted by Iraq’s Interior Ministry Special Forces on August 4 in Baghdad.
”Both of these individuals are "protected persons" under the Fourth Geneva Convention and thus have a right to be protected, under international law.
”Witnesses on the scene, local residents and shop owners in the area said the abductors were riding in two Iraqi police vehicles. So far, all inquiries to the police and Iraqi government officials have been futile and no one in the Interior Ministry is accepting responsibility. There is no information available on the fate of those abducted.
”These abductions constitute a blatant violation of several international conventions. I urge you and your government to ensure the safety of the two abducted PMOI members, Messrs. Hossein Pouyan and Mohammad-Ali Zahedi, and to ensure that they are immediately released.”
