Louee Saeedi said that there is a strong perception that the Iraqi judiciary has been tainted with ulterior political motivations and is supporting the ruling parties.
He was reacting to comments made by Nazem al-Aboudi, the President of the Iraqi High Criminal Court, against Camp Ashraf, home to 3,400 members of the main Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
The Iraqi politician said, “This should not be happening in Iraq because this opposition force is subject to international conventions and laws and US-Iraq agreements, and is monitored by the United Nations. These agreements ensure [Ashraf residents’] rights and safety.”
Mr. Saeedi added, “The truth is that when the Iraqi judiciary intervenes in such issues it raises questions and gives the impression that it wants to placate the Iranian regime, a regime whose animosity towards the PMOI is clear. It is also clear that the Iranian regime is meddling in Iraq and within the ruling parties.”
