NCRI – “Nothing allows an Iraqi party to confiscate the properties of refugees in Iraq,” said the Secretary General of Nation Assembly for Future of Iraq. “Such an action is plain robbery with political motives and is unethical,” he added.
Regarding the claims on the properties of Camp Ashraf resident by some like Ahmad Chalabi, he stated that such claims contradict the national Iraqi conscience that recognized the members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as asylum seekers who are considered as protected persons under international conventions and as members of a liberation movement against a despotic regime in Tehran.
This is a regime that has utilized the most heinous kind of terrorism against the people of Iraq. The best solution to guarantee the well-being, safety and the rights of the members of PMOI (MEK) is to recognize Camp Liberty as a refugee camp under the supervision of the United Nations.
Such recognition can save face and protect the international prestige of Iraq in the world community because it will distance Iraq from responsibilities and disputes that have so far stained its reputation. It will especially take political excuses away from those individuals in the Iraqi government that seek the interests of the clerical regime in Iran rather than those of the Iraqi nation.
