Iraqi MP criticizes Iraqi official’s remarks against Ashraf

Ahmad Soliman al AlvaniNCRI – An Iraqi parliamentarian and member of the al-Iraqiya bloc has criticized remarks by the so-called chairman of a special tribunal threatening the residents of Camp Ashraf with prosecution.

The Iraqi MP, Ahmad Soleiman al-Alvani, was reacting to comments made earlier by Nazem al-Aboudi, and said that under the Fourth Geneva Convention, the residents are political refugees and are protected by international law.

According to the Arabic website, Malaf, on Monday, Mr. al-Alvani added that the residents of Camp Ashraf in Iraq, which is home to 3,400 members of the main Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), have done nothing to threaten Iraq’s national security and their rights must be respected.

He said abuses and pressures against the residents is an issue that has to be investigated and the Iraqi government has no other choice but to treat the residents in accordance with international conventions.
