Iraqi lawyers committee demands release of 36 Camp Ashraf residents

NCRI – Mr. Majid Hamid Amin, chair of the Lawyers Association of Northern Iraq called on Iraqi Government to release the 36 Camp Ashraf residents who were taken hostage during the July attack against the camp by Iraqi forces.

In an interview with the Persian language TV, IranNTV, he said: “The Lawyers Association of Northern Iraq condemns the suppressive actions of the Iraqi government which resulted in injury and death of a number of members of the People’s Mojahedin organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) residing in camp Ashraf.

“We demand the Iraqi government to release those detained to return to their home in Ashraf. The presence of members of the PMOI Camp Ashraf is based on the International conventions and with the consent of the former Iraqi government.  Not only they have not done anything against the Iraqi people, but also have provided humanitarian services such as water and medical services to Iraqi towns and villages in their neighborhood.”

The chair of the Lawyers Association of Northern Iraq added: “We call on the Iraqi government to free those who have been arrested and not to attack or suppress the PMOI. They are guests in Iraq and we should not attack or offend them.”
