“Iraqi government incompetent to protect Ashraf”

NCRI – A member of the Iraqi Parliament has stressed that the residents of Camp Ashraf have been refugees in Iraq since the 1980s and that Baghdad is obligated to comply with international humanitarian rights law with regards to the Iranian dissidents.

Camp Ashraf, Iraq, is home to 3,400 members of the main Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

According to al-Malaf website on Saturday, Sahad Fazel al-Obeidi said the 210 loudspeakers installed around the camp clearly violate human rights and are considered to be systematic torture against the residents under the supervision of the Iraqi government.

The MP said the protection of Ashraf has been the government’s responsibility but security forces have shown that they do not have the competency to protect the camp since they have fallen under the influence of foreign parties.

Ms. al-Obeidi said there are also terminally ill patients in Ashraf, who suffer from cancer, and are in need of treatment in hospitals in Baghdad, but they are prevented from being hospitalization and are on the brink of death.
