Iraqi FM warns attacking Ashraf can result in legal fiasco for Iraq

NCRI – Iraq’s Foreign Minister has warned that continued deadly attacks against the defenceless residents of Camp Ashraf will create a legal fiasco for Iraq on the international level, leading to the prosecution of those responsible.

Al-Sharqiya TV cited intelligence sources in Baghdad as saying that during Monday’s cabinet meeting some ministers whose organizations are directly tied to the Iranian regime’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), pushed to have a discussion on the issue of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

“They also wanted to refer the case from the cabinet to the parliament with the aim of having the PMOI expelled from Iraq. They wanted to do this as a way of securing the continued backing of the Iranian regime for certain factions in the Iraqi government,” the TV quoted the source as saying.

Al-Sharqiya added, “Sources said that Hoshyar Zebari, Iraq’s Foreign Minister, warned during the cabinet meeting that the continued bloody attacks against the defenceless PMOI can turn into a legal case at the international level and lead to the prosecution of those responsible for the deadly acts of previous days and any future cases.”

The TV added, “Iranian opposition activists in Brussels said that those who target defenceless civilians [in Camp Ashraf] using live ammunition are criminals that are trying to save themselves from a political crisis by carrying out this organized massacre on the orders of the Iranian regime.”
