Iraqi dignitaries call for return of Iranians in Camp Liberty to Ashraf

NCRI – A leader of the Iraqi parliament’s Al-Iraqyia coalition has branded claims by government of Nouri Al-Maliki and United Nations representative Martin Kobler that Iranian refugees in Camp Liberty are safe as ‘a sham’.

Dr Ahmad Al-Alvani – also chairman of Economic Commission in the Iraqi Parliament – also demanded that the residents be urgently returned to Ashraf to ensure their security in the wake of the deadly bomb attack on Liberty.
Dr Al-Alvani said: “This crime is the final blow to claims made by Iraqi Government and Martin Kobler that the security of Iranian refugees in the camp is ensured.

“Therefore as the project for transfer of the refugees to third countries has failed, the only measure that ensures their safety is their immediate return to their previous residence in Camp Ashraf.”

Meanwhile Iraq’s Christian Democratic Party Secretary General Ibrahim Al-Yousefi echoed the call to return Liberty refugees to Ashraf.

He said in a statement: “The Iranian regime is chasing the residents of Camp Ashraf everywhere because they are the main threat to that regime.

“The displacement of the Ashraf residents from Camp Ashraf which has protective facilities was a most irresponsible act that endangered their life.  To prevent the repeat of the same tragedy the refugees must be returned to Camp Ashraf.”

The Society of Lawyers in Northern Iraq also urged: “We would like to see an end to the suffering of these refugees and call on United Nations and UNHCR and US to return these refugees to Ashraf immediately.”

And a statement by the Council of Iraqi Tribal Leaders joined the condemnation of the ‘criminal’ Liberty attack and backed Iranian resistance President-elect Maryam Rajavi’s call for a full UN investigation into the Liberty massacre.
