Iraqi daily: Tehran prevents meeting of parents with their children in Camp Ashraf

Camp AshrafNCRI – The Iraqi daily Azzaman quoted a Camp Ashraf resident on Thursday as saying “Iranian regime agents are preventing the meeting of families with their loved ones in the Camp.” He said they “chant slogans and hurl insults, and employ unusual phrases using powerful loudspeakers, which has caused distress for the residents.”

Siavash Mahmoudi added that, “They have exerted a variety of pressures and are using more than 24 loudspeakers especially near the hospital at the camp where ill patients are staying suffering from critical illnesses. So, they are causing psychological distress for them.”

Mahmoudi added: “A number of parents who had previously met their children in Camp Ashraf have been arrested by Iranian regime authorities on charges of moharebeh (“waging war against God”).” He expressed worry about the fate of families of residents and possibility of violence and bringing of false charges against them by the Iranian regime. He demanded an end to the suppressive measures and lifting of a year-old siege on Ashraf.

Azzaman added, “He called on international human rights organizations and the US embassy in Iraq to immediately intervene to put a stop to such instances of human rights abuses and to prevent Tehran from exerting pressures meant to divert attention from its internal crises. He expressed surprise about the silence with regards to the Iranian regime’s meddling in Iraq’s internal affairs.”
