Iraqi committee in defense of Ashraf condemns execution of two Ashraf family members

NCRI – The Iraqi committee in defense of Ashraf has strongly condemned the Iranian regime’s execution on Monday of two sympathizers of the main opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), who had relatives in Camp Ashraf, where 3,400 MEK members reside.

The two, Jafar Kazemi and Mohammad Ali Haj Aghaei, were also charged with appearing in anti-regime protests in 2009.

The Iraqi committee said the two were “heroic PMOI members who sacrificed their lives for the ideal of their people, for defending what is right, and for visiting Camp Ashraf. They were esteemed martyrs, who were symbols of perseverance and selflessness and did not succumb to the regime’s pressures and tortures and were executed like Ali Saremi was last December.”

The statement added, “These criminal executions were carried out following a conference attended by senior American security officials on January 20 calling for the removal of the PMOI from the US terrorist list and after the collapse of talks in Istanbul. The regime has sought to compensate for its failures by taking revenge from PMOI families.”
