NCRI – In their interviews with the media, Iraqi tribal leaders and citizens condemned the inhuman restrictions against residents of Camp Ashraf, who are members of Iranian opposition, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

On April 7, 2009, Sheikh Massoud al-Obeidi, talked with Arabic language al-Malaf website in the city of Khalis near Camp Ashraf, saying: PMOI members have lived close to us for the past 20 years and we have never seen any harm from them. He added: We consider the suppressive measures against them as plans dictated by the Iranian regime.

Karim al-Karkhi, a human rights activist, said: Ashraf residents have rights in accordance with international law, and everyone must respect those rights and avoid violating them. Preventing the entrance of doctors and medical supplies to Ashraf is a clear violation of all democratic and human rights values, condemned by all Iraqi political forces.

A local official from the city of Baaqouba, the capital of Diyala province, told the al-Malaf: We watch with concern the developments in Ashraf, because what is happening there violates the law and is impossible for any one to condone it.
