Iraq – Iran: Ashraf City neighbors express support for (PMOI / MEK)

NCRI – In a gathering of over a thousand Iraqis, meddling of the Iranian regime in Iraq were condemned and they called for the regime's eviction from their country. They also expressed support to the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI / MEK) based in Ashraf City, northeastern Baghdad.

The Iraqis who were from neighboring areas to Ashraf City had participated in a special session of the Solidarity Congress of Iraqi People that was held in Ashraf. They urged for unity among various sections of the society and considered the Iranian regime as the main threat to security and stability in their country. To this end, they viewed support to the PMOI as a leading anti-fundamentalism force opposed to the clerical regime in Iran essential.

Speakers in the congress included a number of Iraqi tribal leaders who vowed to continue struggle against the Iranian regime and its meddling in Iraq as their main task to maintain unity.

The statement which was adopted by the session stated, "democracy and equality in Iraq passes only and only through an unremitting struggle against fundamentalism." It added, "We condemn Iranian regime's conspiracies against the residents of Ashraf City. Members of the PMOI(MEK) are the best friends of the Iraqi people."
