Intesar Allawi, a leader of al-Wataniya Coalition (National Coalition) in Iraq, issued a press release on December 8, announcing the coalition’s opposition to the continuing medical siege against residents of Camp Liberty (near Baghdad Airport).

Iraq’s NINA News Agency reported on December 8 that this leader of the al-Wataniya Coalition has called for “friendly treatment of Camp Liberty residents and humanitarian assistance to them in any way and any method possible, especially with respect to their patients, and the facilitation of their access to hospitals”.

“There are reports concerning violation of the rights of Camp Liberty residents, including obstructing basic goods from reaching the camp such as food and medicine and delay in the treatment of their patients, as well as other cases that constantly reaches al-Wataniya,” said the press release.

“They are innocent people and guests of Iraq,” Ms. Allawi said. “Camp Liberty residents suffer from ill treatment by officials to an extent that they are even deprived of their basic needs such as medicine or preventing their patients from referring to hospitals which has led to the death of a number of them.”

“The position of al-Wataniya Coalition regarding humanitarian treatment of Camp Liberty residents is clear and permanent, as is the stance of Dr. Ayad Allawi, the President of al-Wataniya Coalition, on this issue that is also clear and unchanging,” stated the al-Wataniya official.
