“Iranian regime presses Baghdad to put pressure on Ashraf residents”

NCRI – The Iranian regime is exerting pressure on the Iraqi government to systematically violate the human rights of Camp Ashraf residents, an Iraqi member of Parliament has told Baghdad daily.

The paper wrote on Tuesday that Neda al-Jabouri said the residents of Ashraf, members of the main opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), are considered refugees and subject to the Geneva Conventions, and are supposed to be under the Iraqi government’s protection.

The MP said while the residents must be protected against abuses, many of the patients at the camp are being deprived of medicine and medical treatment due to the unjust siege laid on them by Baghdad.

Ms. al-Jabouri said the installation of 210 loudspeakers around the camp’s premises and other violations are “shameful” measures meant to exert pressure on the residents and subject them to torture.

The MP added that Iraqi forces stationed around the camp execute the orders of the Iraqi government and are accused of committing human rights violations against the residents.

The Iraqi government is responsible for all the human rights violations and aggressions carried out against the residents of Camp Ashraf, Ms. al-Jabouri added.
